This significant day has been observed since 1984. It was established in 1983 by the decision of the General Assembly of ICOMOS (the International Council on Monuments and Sites), operating under UNESCO.
Its main purpose is to preserve historical and cultural heritage, protect historical monuments, and draw public attention to this important field.
Today, there are 188 historical and cultural heritage sites in the city of Shymkent. These include archaeological monuments, architectural structures, sacred sites, and works of monumental art - all of which stand as silent witnesses to our rich history.
